Our Wedding

Our love story almost missed its moment. In 2021, Tiya was preparing for a big life change. After living in Texas for three years, she was planning a move to Virginia to start a new career and a new chapter. Around that same time, Alex was beginning his career as a high school teacher and felt pretty confident about what he wanted for his future. Like many modern love stories, they met online (thanks, Hinge!). Even though Tiya had already decided she might be leaving Texas, she hadn’t deactivated her account just yet—thank goodness. One day she came across Alex’s profile and decided to send the first message. Clearly, she recognized quality when she saw it. Alex was just as excited when he noticed her message… and especially her curly hair. After talking for a few weeks, they decided to meet for dinner at Ra Sushi. What was supposed to be a simple first date turned into six hours of talking, laughing, and realizing they had a lot more in common than they expected. Even though they lived about an hour apart, distance didn’t slow them down at all. Back home, Tiya’s beloved pets, Smudge and Sophia, quickly approved of Alex, which in Tiya’s book was a very important test. Not long after, they both realized they had found their person (shoutout to Grey’s Anatomy). Just three months later, they decided to move in together and start building their life side by side.Over the next few years they supported each other’s goals, moved apartments a few times while figuring out where they wanted to settle, and continued growing together. Then on December 25, 2023 (which also happens to be Alex’s mom’s birthday) Alex asked the most important question: “Will you marry me?”Of course, Tiya said YES… though not without a few happy tears (very on brand for her). On March 1, 2025, they officially tied the knot in a small courthouse ceremony in Houston with close friends and family. Sweet, simple, and life-changing. Just three months later, they bought their first home together and welcomed two energetic kittens, Pixie and Piper, who have since turned the house into their personal gymnastics arena. Their first year of marriage has been full of big milestones, buying a home, new career paths, welcoming new nieces into the family, and supporting each other through life’s unexpected moments. Through it all, their love has only grown stronger. Now it’s time to celebrate with all of the people who have been part of their journey. To laugh, dance, and remember the moments that brought them here. Because this is just the continuation of their happily ever after…this time with everyone they love.

Oh my animal loving friend, Emily! You’re free spirit and kind heart towards all things is exactly why I couldn’t imagine anyone else wedding us! You’re the kind of friend that’ll dance anywhere with me, no matter the moment, bringing joy and laughter, and just the right amount of mischief wherever you go.

My high school best friend, my matron of honor, and my soul sister, I can’t imagine my wedding day without you by my side. You are an incredible, intelligent woman, and I truly hope to be as amazing a mother as you are. You’re loving, strong, and endlessly devoted to the people you care about. From late nights with the “two chocolate girls” (our forever inside joke) to cozy weekends snowed in together, every moment we’ve shared has turned into a memory I’ll always treasure.

Isaac has been in my corner through it all, ready with a six pack( or more) to talk it out or jam it out. He has a kind heart who usually serves as my moral compass when its not tuned correctly; he does not fail to remind me about the good in any situation. His greatest talent is his endless pop culture references, it always ensures conversations dont dry up around him.

Kimberly, after more than 30 years of friendship, you’re truly more like a sister to me. From carefree days playing in the backyard to long sleepovers filled with laughter, a little terror, and scary movies, every moment has meant so much. Our bond is built on love, nostalgia, and a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

My bro, Peter. An easy choice for groomsman, growing up we shared every birthday together, seems fitting that he be part of my wedding. He's one of my 3 siblings, a huge history buff, and an amazing father to his kids; unfortunately he's a Dolphins fan, but im sure he'll wake up and be part of the winning team one day.

Moving to Houston with you and Peyton has been such a special gift, and our bond has grown into something truly meaningful. Watching you as a mother inspires me, you love so deeply, give so selflessly, and shows strength and grace every single day. I’m so grateful not only to call you my sister, but also to admire the incredible woman and mother you are.

My youngest brother who I could not be more proud of the man he has grown to become. Id call him a best friend but fortunately, I have the honor of calling a blood brother. I will forever be grateful being his best man, I hope im able to pay back the measure with him being a groomsman. He's a loyal family man, hardworking, who's made some great accomplishments this year, alone( our beautiful niece is his best gift, yet). Im sure there's still plenty of potential left in him for more. 

Rocky, moving to North Carolina was a big transition for me, but I’m so grateful you were the first friend I made there. We clicked right away and stayed focused on our goals, always supporting and lifting each other up through college. No matter how much time or distance comes between us, we pick up right where we left off without missing a beat. It meant so much to stand by your side as your bridesmaid, and I’m beyond happy you said yes to being part of my special day too.

Another best friend of mine. We go way back to our high school days together, enduring hot as hell football practices and summer camps. A loyal friend who id consider my teaching friend. His engineering mind never fails to introduce me something new. Proud husband and father, I'm grateful to have him as a friend and in the wedding party. Love you, man.

To the younger version of myself, Raven, getting to know you over these past few years has been such a joy. Every moment has been exciting, and our bond has only grown stronger with time. Shiloh is so lucky to have you as her mom, and we’re so lucky to love her like our own niece. From the moment we met, we just clicked, and I’m so grateful for the friendship we’ve built. I will always be here for you, and I can’t imagine marrying my best friend without you right by my side.

Raven

So many good things to say about my brother-in-law and not enough space. Michael, from the first day I met him he has shown me so much love and appreciation; Im surprised his body can even contain his huge heart. What I admired the most was his love for his family and his great relationship with his sister.  Brotherly love is something I can relate with and find his applaudable.  I'm truly impressed how he finds time for a his 'brady bunch' family, its not easy but he makes it work. He has an amazing hands on approach with kids and they love for him for it. Im honored to call him a brother and look forward to many good time in the future.

Jesse, my other brother not from my mother. Jesse and I have been each others biggest cheerleader, rooting each other through personal and professional accomplishments; from getting gains in the gym to becoming role models for the younger generation. His loyalty and love for his friends and family are second to none, im absolutely grateful to be part of his circle. His brightest qualities are his faith and his discipline, they are truly admirable.
